2005: Things I Want To Forget

Here is my list of things from 2005 that I’d love to forget -- that, indeed, we’d all be better off never having cross our minds again: Bill Frist, video diagnostician. Bill Frist, stock market genius. Bill Frist. That drivers will soon have to take out a second mortgage before filling up at the gas pump. That the president thought Harriet Miers was the most qualified candidate for the Supreme Court. That Harriet Miers thought George Bush was the most brilliant man she ever met. That the New York Times held off running the NSA spying story for over a year. That Dick “5 deferments” Cheney was willing to go toe-to-toe with John “5 years as a POW” McCain over the issue of torture… READ MORE

How the liberals stole Christmas

By KEVIN HORRIGAN
St. Louis Post-Dispatch

Twas the month before Christmas, and as I lit candles,

Conservatives stirred -- they were onto a scandal.

"They want to kill Christmas!" came the cry from the right:

"They want to ax Bethlehem and O Holy Night!

"They're after the Christ child and Joseph and Mary

And shepherds and wise men; these liberals are scary."

Who? I said. Who is behind these cruel plots?

"Well, we're not really sure, but we heard it on Fox.

Fox fair and balanced; esteemed, and most highly.

We're not really sure -- it was prob'ly O'Reilly."

So I grabbed the remote and clicked over to Fox,

And there snarled O'Reilly (Imagine my shock):

"The liberals, the commies, the ACLU --

They want to steal Christmas from me and from you.

They say 'Happy holidays' and acknowledge the Jews

By throwing in Hanukkah." I was really confused.

"And what's this with Kwanzaa?" the O'Reilly elf said.

"Some guy made it up, made it up from whole cloth.

And somewhere the pagans are worshipping trees

And Muslims turn eastward on rugs on their knees.

"The Democrats did it," he said with a roar.

"It was Kerry and Biden and Clinton and Gore."

And then with a smirk he fired heavy artillery:

"If you want my opinion, I bet it was Hillary."

I sat there in silence, stunned in my jammies.

My pulse was just racing; my hands were all clammy.

Who can save Christmas from plots so barbaric

That turn Jesus' birthday to a season generic?

What will happen to Christmas? Should I recycle my crèche?

And toss out John's gospel 'bout Word become flesh?

Should I toss out the angels? They could get me arrested.

I was, lo, sore afraid, and my soul greatly tested.

Who will save Christmas? George W. Bush?

Who will save Christmas when shove comes to push?

We could call the Marines, but they've all been assigned.

This disaster needs FEMA. Oh ... never mind.

Then I heard a weird jingling from somewhere in back

And grabbed for the pistol I'm licensed to pack.

I pulled back the slide and quick chambered a round

And yelled out: "Freeze, dirtbag! Don't dare make a sound!"

The guy, he was balding and wore a blue suit.

He was driving a pickup that said: "Brown & Root."

His eyes, they were squinting, his voice, slightly nervous,

Said: "Richard B. Cheney. I'm here, at your service."

I was stunned at the sight of the man who's the veep.

And I thought I was dreaming, in some weird right-wing sleep.

I heard him cough softly, then say: "It's not fiction.

"First Comet is venison. And next I'll shoot Vixen.

"I killed off the reindeer," he softly exhaled.

"And I sent Santa off to a black CIA jail.

"This secular nonsense, we'll end it right quick.

"I've got other priorities, or my name's not St. Dick."

He said, "Christmas's really just all about loot

"You can stuff in your bag and then dis-t'-ri-bute

"To friends and to donors and pals who are cronies.

"It's not about children or Democrat phonies.

"The trick that I've learned," St. Dick said like a Scrooge,

"Is avoiding the blame. Instead, get you a stooge,

"So the stooge takes the heat as you make dead certain

"That the goodies pile up inside Halliburton.

"So we'll blame it on liberals and commies and gays.

"We'll blame it on Democrats and folks who don't pray.

"We've got Bill O'Reilly to stir up the base

"While we haul all our loot to an undisclosed place."

Then he turned with a wink, jumped back into his pickup.

He nodded his head and then said with a hiccup:

"I'll tell you, one thing gives me great satisfaction:

'The liberals stole Christmas'

Is a dandy distraction."

Holidays are upon us shoppers,

time now to drink with your colleagues,

and business associates. Drink? yes,

but how much depends on whether

you want to spend the night in all your

best dressed for the party, in the drunk

tank.

Something new to consider there are

thousands of little tattletales out there

with cell phones. You only need to dial

(will that word vanish?) enter *DWI or

*394. You have to be extra careful now

shoppers. What about busting cell phone

users, while driving? They are just as

dangerous. ~MK

Crackdown To Focus On Drunken Drivers

Motorists Urged To Report Suspicious Drivers

POSTED: 4:43 pm CST December 13, 2005

The number of fatal accidents involving alcohol goes up during the holiday season, so state and local officials are preparing for a crackdown to save lives.

Between now and the new year, authorities say the number of alcohol-related accidents will increase by at least 10 percent because more people are on the road and celebrating.

The Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission teamed up with local law enforcement agencies for the crackdown.

Officers hope to stop people before they even get behind the wheel.

People are also encouraged to take part in the Hero Program for Designated Drivers, or similar programs that find rides for those who have been drinking.

Anyone who has noticed a person driving erratically or suspect another driver has been drinking is asked to call *DWI, that's *394, on their cell phones to report it.

What can you do ? Don't buy and Don't shop at Wal-mart!

Wal-Mart is the biggest corporation in the world. It owns 5,100 stores worldwide and employs 1.3 million workers in the United States and 400,000 abroad, as well as a millions more in the factories of its suppliers. Because of the company's enormity, its business model has a huge influence on workers and businesses around the world; so far Wal-Mart has used that influence to ruthlessly drive down costs as a means of making profit, violating a vast array of human rights and labor rights along the way.

Many people have heard of the way that Wal-Mart steamrolls its way into every possible town, destroying local supermarkets and countless small businesses. We have also heard about Wal-Mart's long track record of worker abuse, from forced overtime to sex discrimination to illegal child labor to relentless union busting. Wal-Mart also notoriously fails to provide health insurance to over half of its employees, who are then left to rely on themselves or taxpayers, who provide for a portion of their healthcare needs through government Medicaid.

Less well known is the fact that Wal-Mart maintains its low price level by allowing substandard labor conditions at the overseas factories producing most of its goods. The company continually demands lower prices from its suppliers, who, in turn, make more outrageous and abusive demands on their workers in order to meet Wal-Mart's requirements. In September 2005, the International Labor Rights Fund filed a lawsuit on behalf of Wal-Mart supplier sweatshop workers in China, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Nicaragua and Swaziland. The workers were denied minimum wages, forced to work overtime without compensation, and were denied legally mandated health care. Other worker rights violations that have been found in foreign factories that produce goods for Wal-Mart include locked bathrooms, starvation wages, pregnancy tests, denial of access to health care, and workers being fired and blacklisted if they try to defend their rights.

Additionally, nearly 70% of Wal-Mart's goods are made in factories in China, a country where garment workers are often kept under 24-hour-a-day surveillance and can be fired for even discussing factory conditions. The Chinese government does not allow independent human rights groups to exist, and all attempts to form independent unions have been crushed. Wal-Mart refuses to reveal its Chinese contractors and will not allow independent, unannounced inspections of its contractors' facilities.

The bitter winter cold continues here in

Old Cowtown today. The ice on the roads

did not deter the endless stream of shoppers

skidding and sliding into light poles. Today,

I was one who foolishly ventured onto the

slick roads to service my pools.

Swimming pools in mid December? Yes

most pools in Texas are uncovered and

 remain  running through winter.

The skimmer baskets still get jammed

with leaves and algae will grow in winter.

Chemicals must be maintained all year.

I went to service my pools and slid into

a curb. Not any serious damage I hope.

I will know when I get my wheels aligned.

My advise, stay home. Shop if you must

on line. Better yet, do not buy anything.

Most importantly Do Not Shop Wal-mart.

Help Us Take This Into Wal-Mart's Home Turf!

Wal-Mart: Killing Local Businesses One Main Street at a Time

Please contribute to help publish this billboard less than one mile from Wal-Mart's Bentonville, Ark., World Headquarters. For every $5,000 raised, we can own the billboard space for another month to confront Wal-Mart's devastating impacts on small businesses across the country. Help level the playing field that Wal-Mart tilts by seizing on corporate welfare, providing poverty wages and unaffordable healthcare, and purchasing most of its inventory from sweatshops. GO »

Back to blogging again. Finally a break in my

schedule  brought on by severe weather from

Canada. The roads  are iced and sleet is

falling. As I try to recover from a

very bad case of influenza, I am inside today.

I am sick of the weather here in NE Texas,

literally.

My intent, though not definite, is to move to

California. I have met a most wonderful

young lady from a town east of L.A.

My girlfriend and  I  had the best vacation

ever, driving up the coast of California

and visiting  my sister in San Francisco.

I met my new girlfriend at

 Democratic Singles Network .

I live in Fort Worth, Texas, the second most

red or right wing dominated, corporate

hotbed of Christian Republicans in the U.S.

This is a disgusting place to live for a truly

liberal  freethinker . I have not found my

exact match, my girl claims to be an

 "Independant" and a belief in

the supernatural, including the God

of The Religious Right.

( I have found the perfect woman for me)

I believe in God, only I spell it Nature.
Frank Lloyd Wright (1869 - 1959)

My girl Annette is full of life and a lover of truth,

She loves nature and her fellow mankind and

she loves me, and I love her.

We will work together to "Take Back America"

As from the following speech (click on quote to read)

"80% of Republicans are just Democrats who don't know what's going on" Robert F. Kennedy Jr
