Year 2 today for The Kellogs blog

Do I want to continue blogging? Yes, I have hope.

I don't like the fact that Americans are dumber

than ever . According to Nielson, families

are watching T.V. over 8 hours a day!

Americans viewing TV at record levels

The bullshit and commercials on T.V.

are an incredibly effective  brain washing

tool of the Corporate government.

Every day the right wing takes more

control over what you see and hear on

t.v. and radio. So far the Republicans

have not been able to control the content

of the internet . Blogging is one of the few

ways America can get the truth out.

One of the few real news networks is

Freespeech Network: Home of Free Speech TV

featuring Democracy Now!: radio and TV news

On traditional radio you will hear free speech

is on Air America Radio |

RIGHT-WING MEDIA GETS DESPERATE
Danny Goldberg, HuffingtonPost.com
Business is booming at Air America, and that's why Limbaugh
and O' Reilly have started spreading lies about the
network's looming bellyflop.

Local Public Access TV Under Attack From Trio of Congressional Bills

Local public access television across the United States is being threatened by legislation introduced in both the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives.

Daily Ray of Hope

"Where there is vision, the people prosper and flourish, and the natural world recovers, and our communities recover. The good news is we know what to do. The good news is, we have everything we need now to respond to the challenge of global warming. We have all the technologies we need, more are being developed, and as they become available and become more affordable when produced in scale, they will make it easier to respond. But we should not wait, we cannot wait, we must not wait, we have every thing we need - save perhaps political will. And in our democracy, political will is a renewable resource."

-- Former Vice President Al Gore earlier this month at the Sierra Summit

We have to stop Global Warming and we will

stop G. W. Bush and his Occupation of Iraq.

Do you live in a bike friendly community?

Even though we have about 30 miles

of very good bike trails here in Cowtown.

The giant SUV prevails, with one driver.

Definately not a "bike friendly" town.

The other day I gave a fast moving SUV

driver a hand sign, to slow down.

He slammed on his brakes and came

back to confront me. No I did not give

him the finger, just a down pushing

motion with my  palm open and facing

down. I told the man "please go slow,

in these neighborhoods" people are

walking here" " I' m walking here."

He said he appreciates my concern

and he was only going 20 mph.

If that is true, it is way too fast

to drive along side of baby buggies

and Moms and kids walking and riding

bikes. read these articles on bike accidents:

Bicyclist Killed in One of Three Morning Accidents Involving Cars ...
KOLD-TV - Tucson,AZ,USA
... after three accidents this morning involving bikes and cars ... advocates say these kind of accidents can be ... already been 206 collisions between bicycles and cars ...

Cars, bikes compete on Tucson streets

Bush: The worst disaster to hit the U.S.

Bush's hard fall
His career was based on creating low expectations and then meeting them, but Katrina brought a cold blast of reality.
By Garrison Keillor

"The thing that has been is the thing that shall be; and the thing that is done is that which shall be done: There is nothing new under the sun." Or, to put it a slightly different way, a man walked into the house with a handful of dog waste and said, "Look what I almost stepped in."

Political Justice for Hurricane Families

Shame on America. The horror of Katrina has revealed, not just to this nation but to the world, the growing fissures between the working poor and the ultra-rich, between African American and white citizens, between those who had the resources to get out of New Orleans and those who were left to drown.

You've given to relief. Now it's time to stand with those who were left behind to ensure that the when the next Katrina hits, America does not fail the least among us. There are three ways to give.

2 bathtub.jpg Tell Washington: The common good depends on good government

Give now: $10 will help us put this billboard up in Washington, DC; Houston, Texas; and Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

After you've contributed to help evacuees with basic human needs, make a $10 donation to send a message to our representatives in Washington, D.C. and voters in the heartland cities hosting hundreds of thousands of evacuees. Americans need to know that the common good depends upon good government. Your token contribution of $10 will help us put this shocking graphic on billboards, including one outside of Grover Norquist's office at Americans for Tax Reform where 100 influential conservative leaders hold a weekly strategy session each Wednesday.

Give now: $5 will help us put this billboard up in Grover Norquist's neighborhood

1 Reunite families brutally separated by the haphazard and too-late evacuation

Give now: If you act now, your donation will be matched dollar for dollar -- and a $49.50, $99.50 or $149.50 contribution buys a $99, $199 or $299 one-way ticket to reunite a family.

During the evacuation, mothers -- almost exclusively African American-- had to choose between remaining with older children and carrying infants to safety. Extended families boarded separate buses, unsure of their fate, only to find themselves separated by thousands of miles and trapped in shelters with no way out. Husbands and wives, parents and children, now in shelters, have to endure the continuing trauma of separation. You can reunite a family today by helping us buy one-way tickets which we are providing, without bureaucratic red tape, to families in shelters identified by our friends at the NAACP, ACORN and other groups on the ground.

Give now: $99, $199, or $299 buys a one-way ticket to reunite a family tomorrow

3 Help evacuees organize to demand a say in relief funds and reconstruction efforts

Give now: Don't let the government leave evacuees behind again.

As Van Jones of the Ella Baker Center puts it, the governing philosophy of the people who run our government is sink or swim for almost everybody unless you are a crony, and then different rules apply. We must act now to ensure that evacuees have a say in how resources are allocated to survivors and to protect the long-term redevelopment of New Orleans and other Gulf Coast communities from opportunistic cronyism. Corporations with close ties to those in power -- like Halliburton -- cannot be allowed to treat disaster recovery efforts as a corporate ATM. Humane treatment of survivors demands more than a handout -- it demands a sea change in politics as usual.

Make one donation to our Political Justice for Survivors fund and we'll support a range of local community-based organizations who won't pack up and leave once the media spotlight goes away. These groups include:

  • ACORN supports the political organizing of evacuees to get the respect they deserve from local and national political representatives and fight for humane treatment. A national network of community organizations, ACORN is headquartered in New Orleans and has been particularly hit hard by this tragedy.

  • New Orleans People's Committee was convened by Black community activists and organizers of color from Community Labor United. The goal of the committee is to unite evacuees to demand a role in reviewing and influencing how resources are allocated on behalf of survivors and to fight for decision-making power in the long-term redevelopment of New Orleans.

  • Long after the aid agencies and relief volunteers have gone, the New Orleans Network, Sparkplug Foundation, Biloxi-based Gulf Coast Community Foundation, and the Baton Rouge Area Foundation will still be working on the ground to help evacuees and the families of hurricane survivors as they forge new lives in the wake of Katrina.

Give now: Don't let the government leave evacuees behind again.

Reports on Wal-mart By Liza Featherstone, AlterNet.

We've seen a new side of Wal-Mart in recent weeks. By being first on the scene in many of the places hardest hit by Hurricane Katrina, Wal-Mart and the Walton family have shown how the private sector can and should respond - with haste and generosity. Working closely with federal, state and local authorities, Wal-Mart's fleet of trucks, temporary stores and ruthlessly efficient distribution network has, no doubt, helped saved lives.

We applaud Wal-Mart's employees, the Walton family, and CEO Lee Scott for their generosity. We also take pride in knowing that our campaign to hold Wal-Mart accountable for their business practices has, in part, spurred their hasty and generous response.

But because generosity in time of crisis isn't enough, our campaign must continue.

http://www.walmartwatch.com/november

Sam Walton once pronounced at a Wal-Mart rally that "high expectations are the key to everything." We agree. So today, we're proud to reiterate that call by announcing our plans for a nationwide "Higher Expectations Week" November 13-19.

Sign up to host a house party screening of Robert Greenwald's new documentary "Wal-Mart: The High Cost of Low Prices" here.

The troubling displays of poverty and despair that have flooded newspapers and TV broadcasts in the wake of Katrina have reintroduced us all to America's forgotten class. While there are many other factors contributing to America's poverty epidemic, Wal-Mart's role cannot be understated.

Wal-Mart profits from and promotes poverty. As our nation's largest corporation and private employer, the standards they set (low wages, unaffordable health insurance, disregard for community and environment) accelerate a destructive race-to-the-bottom across all industries.

Wal-Mart Watch's "Higher Expectations Week" is the culmination of our campaign's first year. Today, we ask you to pledge your support of the weekby signing up and introducing your friends and family to our campaign. Invite friends and family to join in a series of events around the country, including:

  • Over 1,000 public events already being planned by 220 partner organizations.
  • 3,600 house parties (one for every Wal-Mart stores in the U.S.) will premiere Robert Greenwald's new documentary, "Wal-Mart: The High Cost of Low Prices."

Sign up for Higher Expectations Week now.

Changing Wal-Mart starts with you - in your community, in your city council meeting, at your local merchants and even in casual conversations with your friends and neighbors.

With over 220 participating organizations, Higher Expectations Week is the broadest challenge to Wal-Mart yet - and one that can't be ignored. In fact, we've already gotten headlines for our plans in Wal-Mart's hometown newspaper.

In recent weeks, Wal-Mart has shown us their power to do good things. Now is our opportunity to challenge them to do more.

image60 days and counting. . . I look forward to seeing you at an event in November.

Sincerely,

Executive Director

On Saturday I got the chance to talk to

Republicans and Bush supporters in

Azle, Texas, at their annual "Jumping Jack

Festival".  I am trying to think positively,

It is hard to do when so much hate prevails

from the other side. Many were glad to see

a Democratic presence and signed up to

join a new group of  Tarrant County,

"Northwest Democrats".  Many others

were trying to convert people over to their

various "Christian" groups. There was an

Army recruiting tent at the front of rows of

businesses, and groups with literature and

displays under tent canopies. We asked people

why they vote Republican, and why they

support (the worst president in U.S. history).

Not one had any good arguement , or could

clearly state why. No one could tell us why

they believe in our present form of

government. Many had to blame Bill Clinton,

and the Democrats, who have been out of

power for 5 years now.

Like the saying goes. "Democrats fall in love,

Republicans fall in line" ~ MK

Read a good letter below, from the much

hated ,(by the party of hate) Michael Moore:

To All My Fellow Americans Who Voted for George W. Bush:

On this, the fourth anniversary of 9/11, I'm just curious, how does it feel?

A Human and Environmental Disaster
In addition to being a human and economic tragedy, Hurricane Katrina is an environmental disaster of unprecedented proportions. Although the extent of the environmental devastation remains unknown, it is clear that Katrina is a wake-up call and a warning not to repeat the mistakes of the past. Recovery from Katrina is also an opportunity to rebuild New Orleans and the Gulf Coast in visionary and environmentally responsible ways that emphasize energy conservation; encourage the use of renweable fuels; protect wetlands; change how toxic chemicals are stored and shipped through our communities; and ensure that every resident can live in a safe and healthy neighborhood.

But right now our focus must be on the victims of this disaster and their immediate needs. To help, please visit the American Red Cross

Don't Drill! Hit Capitol Hill!

Arctic RefugeCongress is expected to vote this month on a budget bill that would open the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to oil drilling. (That's the coastal plain of the Refuge at right.) Big Oil and its Congressional allies -- in spite of overwhelming public support for protecting this national treasure -- have buried the Arctic drilling measure deep in the budget. Don't let them get away with this sneaky trick!

On September 20th, thousands of citizens will gather on the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol for Arctic Refuge Action Day. We'll hear well-known speakers and advocates, and everyone is encouraged to visit the offices of their members of Congress to voice strong support for protecting the Arctic Refuge.

View Satellite Images of damage

NEW YORK (AP) - The Associated Press is offering Internet access to a satellite image that covers most of New Orleans, detailed enough that viewers can zoom in to check on particular neighborhoods and streets.

The image's resolution is high, at 2.4 meters per pixel. It is posted in a format that allows quick viewing of any area a user zooms in on. Users can quickly see what areas are under water and what structures are still standing.

The initial image was taken Wednesday and supplied by the company DigitalGlobe. AP will offer updated satellite images as as they become available.

Louisiana, Louisiana
They're tyrin' to wash us away
They're tryin' to wash us away

With a little fat man with a note-pad in his hand
The President say, "Little fat man isn't it a shame what the river has done
To this poor crackers land."
