I am back from vacation!

It is good to get away ,  and even

better to be back home. My

home is not much, but it's mine.

Fort Worth, Texas , is my home.

I was an adolescent in SC. I miss

my sisters and my folks. I was happy

that my Dad and my Mom,who divorced

over 26 years ago were there together at

my baby sisters house. Dad would have

never made an appearance at my Moms,

that's just the way. Tomorrow I'll write

more and tell about my new kittens,

<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>
"Sales" at Car Dealerships -- The Inside Story
<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>

There are many different kinds of "sales" that auto dealers
offer. A few of the different types are the Super Sale,
Credit Union Sale, Slasher Sale, Push, Pull & Drag Sale, $29
Acquisition Sale, the Pre-Approved Sale, Recent Bankruptcy
Sale, Give Away a Gift Sale -- and the list could go on.

You would think if you went to one of these sales, you would
save money.

However, when it comes to auto dealers, nothing could be
further from the truth.

Let me give you a brief description of how three of these
sales work, and you will see why you won't save any money at
them.

1. The Super Sale: This is a relatively new kind of sale --
it's only a few years old.

Usually what happens is an auto dealer will hire an outside
group sales team to come to the dealership and conduct the
entire sale.

The company hired to perform and conduct the Super Sale will
come to the dealership with extra sales people: a finance
manager, two or three closers, and of course a desk manager.

The sales plan will include the dealership spending about
$10,000 in advertising, which mostly consists of a flyer
that will be inserted into all the surrounding local
newspapers, as well as radio ads and a newspaper ad (that
looks like an editorial) in the local newspaper.

Here's how it works: The outside company will typically add
$5,000 to the cost of each vehicle and then figure payments
based on the longest possible term, with only a $29 down
payment.

They will then put the payments in each vehicle on the lot.
The amount will hang from the mirror on a hang tag
advertising "pick a payment, pick a vehicle."

As you can see, there is no discount.

Consumers think there is a sale and that they are going to
get a great deal. But in reality, if they fall for the
"payment only thinking," they will end up paying much too
much for any vehicle they buy.

The real price of the vehicle is never displayed at these
kinds of sales... only the payment.

During these Super Sales, dealerships will make from 50% to
100% of what they normally would make in a month... in a
four-day sale period!

Needless to say, it is one of the most profitable sales for
an auto dealership to conduct.

People who buy during this type of sale grossly overpay and
give the dealership a huge profit... but they are often the
happiest people on earth because the dealership did a great
job of making them think they got a great deal!

These are the kind of customers car dealers love. These
people focus on the payment only, and are oblivious to
anything else. They don't pay attention to how much they
actually paid for the car -- or how much they received for
their trade-in car.

2. The Pre-Approval Sale: The Pre-Approval Sale is geared
towards people with poor credit.

The dealership hires an outside marketing company that sends
thousands of letters to people according to their FICO
score, which is a person's credit rating.

Usually, the dealership will mail letters to people with
FICO scores between 500 and 650 (which is quite low).

The letter will come to the consumer and will have a check
attached to it saying the customer is pre-approved for a
loan amount of $19,995 for example, and they need to call
ABC Motors immediately to lock in their loan approval.

Sometimes there will be a hook involved in the letter, such
as a free gift for coming into the dealership.

These sales are also very profitable because the dealership
personnel will totally control the customer, and basically
tell them what kind of car they can buy.

They will "stuff" the customer in whatever car provides the
dealer with the most profit, as well as con the customer
into thinking they have to buy the back end products -- like
an extended service contract, life, accident and health
insurance, etc.

This sale works the same way for fresh bankruptcy customers.

Since bankruptcy is a matter of public record, dealerships
love to target fresh bankruptcy customers. These people
just went through a bankruptcy, so they are most likely
embarrassed, depressed, and are desperate to start over and
re-establish their credit.

Again, the dealership controls the sales process and sells
high-profit cars at full price or more -- with lots of back
end products.

3. The Website $1,000 Free Gift Certificate Scam: This is
one of the newest sales out there.

In the Website $1,000 Free Gift Certificate Scam, consumers
receive a postcard or letter from the local car dealership
that invites them to the dealership to look at cars. The
dealership will give the consumer a gift certificate worth
$1,000 in free merchandise -- just for coming in.

After coming in (and often buying a car at inflated prices),
the customer gets the $1000 gift certificate.

The consumer then simply goes to the website that is on the
certificate and can choose from many different types of
merchandise, such as electronics, camping equipment,
kitchen, sporting goods, etc.

The scam is that the equipment is grossly overpriced, and
there are outrageous shipping charges. The shipping charges
actually cost more than the product -- and that is how the
website makes its profit!

Of course, the consumer thinks the products are free, but
they know they still have to pay the shipping charges.

If you picked out $1000 worth of products from the website,
it would cost you about $300 in shipping charges -- and the
products are really only worth about $150-$200!

This scam brings a lot of people into the dealership.
However, the fact is that most of the people who come in
have bad or challenged credit -- and of course, if they buy
a vehicle, they get taken advantage of the most.

Summary: Getting customers into auto dealerships has become
an art form in trickery, deceit and the latest techniques in
psychological button-pushing.

It plays on people wanting to get something for free. Auto
dealers use televisions, bicycles, sporting goods, gift
certificates -- and anything else they can think of that
will get people into their showroom floor.

Whatever they are giving away, you can be sure that you are
ultimately paying for it in the car deal.

The bottom line is you don't need to go to a special sale in
order to get a good car deal. Car "sales" are designed to
rip you off, NOT give you a great deal.

Action: Never waste your time going to a sale at an auto
dealer.

advocate, consultant and author of the excellent book "Car

Silence'!"-- exclusively for Internet ScamBusters.

FACE THE MUSIC III: While performing in a musical in a community
theater,
Jay Meisenhelder "fell in love" with a fellow actress. She is 16.
"I'm
53-years-old, and believe me, I know what love is," he wrote her in
an
e-mail. "I love you as I have only loved two other women in my life."
He also met the girl for a candle-lit music session. When his boss
found out about the e-mail, apparently sent from work, and the
meeting,
Meisenhelder was fired from his job -- as the Marion County, Ind.,
deputy prosecutor and assistant chief of the sex crimes division.
Meisenhelder, who is married, insists "nothing I did was illegal."
His
lawyer agrees: Meisenhelder was just "expressing a fantasy," attorney
Roberta Ross says. "What they essentially chose to do was take an
excellent eight-year employee who lived and breathed and loved his
job
and dramatically overreacted." (Indianapolis Star) ...Yes, well, his
breathing just got too heavy for the public to stomach.

GENTLEMEN'S AGREEMENT: Leaders of Colorado's state House of
Representatives chided fellow lawmakers for getting into a fight
recently. Rep. Bill Cadman called an amendment proposed by Rep. Val
Vigil "garbage." When Vigil said Cadman was garbage, Cadman said if
Vigil ever said that again, "I'll ram my fist up your ass." Minority
Leader Joe Stengel urged, "We need to agree to disagree without being
disagreeable." (Denver Rocky Mountain News) ...Agreed.

FEEL SECURE WHILE SHOPPING: A woman who saw her rapist convicted and

to prison for 10 years just five years ago stopped by a Target store
in
Chicago, Ill., to make a sales call. The security guard at the store
confronted her and demanded to know her name. She immediately
recognized him as her rapist. She refused to tell him her name, and
the
guard followed her around until she jumped in her car to escape; he
wrote down her license plate number. She went to the police, who
arrested the guard, Andre Johnson, 36, for assault and failure to
register as a sex offender. He has been out of prison for at least a
year. A Target manager, saying he was "appalled," fired Johnson.
(Chicago Sun-Times) ...What was the appalling part? That they didn't
do
a background check, or that they did and hired him anyway?

This Day in History

1762 First St. Patrick's Day parade

In New York City, the first parade honoring the Catholic feast day of St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland, is held by Irish soldiers serving in the British army.

Saint Patrick, who was born in the late 4th century, was one of the most successful Christian missionaries in history. Born in Britain to a Christian family of Roman citizenship, he was taken prisoner at the age of 16 by a group of Irish raiders who attacked his family's estate. They transported him to Ireland, and he spent six years in captivity before escaping back to Britain. Believing he had been called by God to Christianize Ireland, he joined the Catholic Church and studied for 15 years before being consecrated as the church's second missionary to Ireland. Patrick began his mission to Ireland in 432, and by his death in 460, the island was almost entirely Christian.

Early Irish settlers to the American colonies, many of whom were indentured servants, brought the Irish tradition of celebrating St. Patrick's feast day to America. The first recorded St. Patrick's Day parade was held not in Ireland but in New York City in 1762, and with the dramatic increase of Irish immigrants to the United States in the mid-19th century, the March 17th celebration became widespread. Today, across the United States, millions of Americans of Irish ancestry celebrate their cultural identity and history by enjoying St. Patrick's Day parades and engaging in general revelry.

In Savannah Georgia, my hometown, St. Patricks Day is a day off to get drunk and  the 250

thousand  population doubles and more flock to the 2nd biggest parade and celebration at the Savannah riverfront.

What about IDENTITY THEFT

some good points here:

<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>
Identity Theft Often Begins the Same Place Charity Does -- at Home
<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>

You'd almost have to live in a cave not to know about identity
theft. It's in the news on a regular basis. In addition, you
may have already been a victim -- or know someone who has been
victimized.

We've also written about identity fraud a good deal. If you
missed our articles, you can visit these pages:

==} http://www.scambusters.org/Scambusters47.html

==} http://www.scambusters.org/id-theft.html

Everyone also seems to be aware that electronic identity theft
-- through email, online banking or using credit cards online
-- costs consumers millions of dollars every year, and the
numbers are escalating.

For the fifth year in a row, identity theft topped the list of
complaints reported to the Federal Trade Commission in 2004,
accounting for 39% of all complaints received annually by the
FTC. It also tops our ScamBusters prediction list of the worst
scams for 2005:

==} http://www.scambusters.org/internetscams.html

The consequences of becoming a victim of identity fraud
include: having a scammer open up accounts in your name (and
running up debts to those accounts), losing your job, being
denied insurance, or even being arrested for crimes you didn't
commit.

However, what you may NOT be aware of is that fully 50% of
reported identity fraud is perpetrated by relatives, friends
and neighbors, or acquaintances of the victim.

That's a truly amazing statistic. And whereas many people
think that computer crimes account for most identity theft,
computer crimes, in fact, only accounted for 11.6% of all
identity theft where the cause was known in 2004.

According to a survey done by Javelin Strategy & Research,
these 'close encounters' by friends and family are costing much
more money -- and time to resolve -- than 'stranger' fraud
would.

Here's an example: the median loss from phishing scams is
$2,320. But when the identity theft is a result of fraud by
family and friends, the median loss is $15,607!

So how do you decrease your chances of your identity being
stolen by a neighbor or a nephew?

Here are 5 tips:

1. Don't give ANYONE access to your PIN #s.

2. Don't leave financial mail or statements lying around your
house or your car -- you'd be appalled at how much information
can be gleaned from your checkbook, bank statements, credit
card account statements and tax records.

3. When you are discarding things, shred any personal documents
that may contain personal or financial information.

4. As much as possible, sign up for electronic banking and
account monitoring, and then review your accounts regularly.
Any fraud will be detected sooner -- and more easily -- than if
you wait for monthly mail.

5. Review your credit report, bank accounts and credit card
bills frequently. Self detection is the best way to find out
about identity fraud early.

For more tips on how to prevent and detect identity fraud,

Action: Follow these tips and be vigilant to protect yourself
from identity theft from people you know. And also follow the

theft from strangers.

All alone saturday night and

then surprise visitors arrived.

My friend Rosa came over

as I was pulling roast chicken

off of my grill .

I have finally lived long enough

when my friends no longer bring

there spoiled brats.

It has always made me glad to

never have children of my own.

Well now I have changed my mind,

about children. Rosa brought her 1

year old baby grandson, who never

cried or wailed at all.

Her 8 year old granddaughter Abby

was the perfect little girl. Very smart

and polite. I was impressed with her

artwork. She drew an assortment

of dinosaurs and then named and

correctly spelled each.

She is from a, now typical Texas family

In her words "I have a white mom and a

Mexican dad" Her parents were working

the late shift at a pizza restaurant.

Her parents are obese , she jumped

right on my eliptical trainer and worked

out vigorously for about an hour in all.

She worked out with my weights and

strength bands and jump and played

on my fitness ball. She weighed herself

before at 88.4 lbs and after at 86.6.

She says she doesn't want to be fat."

I told her to come workout with me again.

She said "I like you" She was very

talkative and unafraid to be herself.

Her favorite shows are "The Simpsons ",

and "the Animal Planet "

She asked me "Does it make you sad to

live alone" I said ,"Sometimes, but I am

always happy to have visitors."

Here is a song , about being alone,

One of the best comedy shows

that has stood up over time is

The The Simpsons on Fox.

I watched a saved to DVR

Especially funny ,Homer as a

greeter at "Sprawl-Mart"

the "Lisa's restraining order against

Bart " episode #GABFO5

Then "Fear_Factor " came on,

The episode I saw showed a contest

between a  20-ish man and a very big

tittied woman, in a revealing top

sucking on a goats teat , then spitting

into a glass. The winner fills the glass

first then drinks it. Who-ever does this

first without puking wins.

Unbelievable what can be seen on

TV.  I have to admit I watched it.

The best part about exercise in the

gymnasium  is the good feeling afterward.

My plan is to continue

after all weight and fitness  goals are met.

It does take time. I try to multitask (a 2000's

word I just learned). I like to listen to music,

I have downloaded to my Mp3 player. I have

not been able to listen to a book yet. It is not

something that I think I can get into yet.

I don't remember being read to much as

a child, if so I am sure I didn't listen.

I had a girlfriend that would read out loud

the daily newspaper. I never listened.

So music is my choice for now.

The Tv shows on the 10 sets are all on

absolutely un-watchable crap, crap, and

more crap. On top of that some really stupid

asinine  commercials.

I yearn for the day , commercial Tv goes away

completely ,along with the entire Bush regime.

Today I see very firm and fit men and women

as "trainers". I only had a trainer instruct me

very briefly in the beginning. He was very

bored and seemed to want to be else-where.

I have not seen him since the day I started

 working out.

I do see the male trainers touching alot,

manipulating of the female gym members,

they are smiling alot. The table looks like the

 most intimate of touching.

Hmm .. maybe I would like to be

a fitness trainer.  Maybe not ....they are

 waiting for "late" females alot.

 Fitness appointments are a low

priority it seems.

I pass the time looking at other members, I do

talk to the Hispanic maid. She works out, and

is in great shape too, maybe 40 to 50

years old.

I see some aging female gym members.

Some  with a little imagination ,look like

"GrannyClampett " with implants.

Perfect breasts, standing  out on a

wrinkled body. I have to quit looking,

I will look into a site I found Audible.com .

Also Podcast.net . I'll check out

Record Any Internet Radio

Well I'll keep working out maybe I will

look like "Popeye the sailor" , or hopefully

not his poor old dad "Poop-deck pappy".

The latest news on the Bush-led right wing,

attempt to control our lives.

Apply_Decency_Standards_To_Cable_And_Satellite

At the gym I am shocked to see how crappy

and stupid Tv is. The absurd commercials

are one thing. Apparently people are buying

the "pecker enlargement" pills that are

advertised constantly.

You see this stupid smiling jerk in a 1950's

style pool party, I am not sure what the ad

says, I have the sound off.

My MP3 player, is mostly what I listen to.

I think all commercial Tv sucks to the nth

degree.

I admit to watching some local news.

I do watch the "judge shows" during

 workouts.

The US government has no business trying to

control what we watch on HBO or any other

 pay Tv period,

next they'll try to censor the Sopranos.

On Broadcast TV this week:

WATCH "SISTERS OF '77" ON PBS

Don't Miss 'Sisters of '77' on PBS

In Nov. 1977, 20,000 people attended the National Women's Conference in Houston, where they hammered out resolutions that revolutionized the U.S. women's movement. The documentary "Sisters of '77," airing now on PBS, brings this historic conference to life. Learn moreProgress Report, 2/18/05: INTELLIGENCE, Fourth Time's A Charm ...

"You're  starting to get a big one there "

~ "Beer Belly" commenting on my own

Texas beer belly.

What  "Beer Belly" doesn't know is I have

been working out at the gym every day.

Not a whole lot of progress yet . I had to

take the day off from exercising today ,

because of a sore knee. I over-did it ,

A really vigorous work-out to my "Taj

Mahal" work-out MP3.

Tonights menu was a very delicious

grilled shrimp salad at "The Blue Mesa",

I will not be a "salad dodger" .

After dinner my friend Siesta and I had

a cup of Starbucks at the Barnes and Noble

(both very Blue) .

Here are some good menu ideas if

I get tired of salad. from Mens_Health

Go Toward the Light

Mmm...burger. We know you want it--that juicy, flame-broiled hunk of meat. Well, guess what? You can eat it! We found a way to put a healthy spin on all the junk foods you yearn for--nachos, pizza, grilled cheese, fish and chips, etc. Take our advice on how to prepare these foods, and you can pig out all you want.

Spring is here in Old Cowtown

Busy busy everywhere, I see shoppers

talking on cell phones at every inter-

section. I almost got run over crossing,

the road. I want to hold up a sign every

time I cross traffic. The sign shall say.....

how about "I'm walking here!" remember

that line from " Midnight Cowboy",

 then in "Forest Gump"

Or maybe a sign "Share the roads"

or a favorite "Shut Up and Drive" Or :

"HANG UP THE GODDAMN PHONE"

Hear the phones ring everywhere,

now they are playing "The eyes of Texas",

"The William Tell Overture"

Restaurants, doctor's offices and churches are among the places where people are asked to silence their cellphones.

Cellphone subscribers in the United States number more than 170 million, up from 34 million in 1995,

Everyone has a cell phone these days, the rudeness is extraordinary,

(These phones have call notes, You can leave a message)

My office phone no longer has "call-rudeness" , or better known as

call waiting. When I call a business or especially if someone calls

me, and then puts me on hold. It is like saying "Oh another call

coming in, I have no idea who the hell it is, but this unknown caller,

is more important than you." If asked "Do you mind" I say yes, if not,

I hang up period. I don't tolerate rudeness.
