I fell for the following con job when I bought my truck.

Beware of all the lies and deception out there shoppers! ~MK

The biggest auto financing scams: packed payments and back end profits

In order to let you know about the biggest auto financing scams, we asked Peter Humleker, consumer advocate, consultant and author of the excellent book "Car Buying Scams, Auto Dealer Executive "Breaks Code of Silence!" to write an exclusive article for us on the topic.

Peter told us that 'packed payments' are certainly one of the biggest auto financing scams -- and most people don't know anything about them.

So, here's Peter's article on this huge auto financing scam:

If you are unfortunate enough to have to deal with a car salesman when you buy a car, then you’re most likely going to encounter what are called "packed payments."

When your sitting in the showroom and the sales person has given the paperwork to his manager, what typically happens?

The "closer" or salesman comes back to the table with huge auto financing payments.

For example, you only wanted payments of no more than $350.00 per month but now the payment is $421.00!

This is often because the payments are "packed."

What a "packed" payment means is that the payment includes the extended service contract, life and disability insurance, GAP insurance, and what ever else the dealer wants to add into the payment so that it is easier to sell it to you in the Finance Office.

Your payment might really be $357 but they tell you it is $421.

What they don’t tell you is the payment of $421 has the extra back end products already added into it.

If you agree to the payment, when you get in the Finance Office and find out that it includes the extras, it is much easier for the Finance Manager to get you to agree to buy the extra back end products.

For example, let's say you agree to a car payment of $421 per month. Then you get to the Finance Managers office and he tells you "Yeah, your payment is only $421 per month and the great news is that it includes the 6 year extended service contract, GAP insurance, and life, accident and health insurance, as well as paint and interior protection!"

Many people will just go ahead and accept the payment thinking they are getting a great deal because they are getting all of the extra’s and their payment never changed or went up!

Dealers make lots of extra money packing payments.

However, the truth is that giving a packed payment is illegal in most states -- yet car dealers continue to use this auto financing scam anyway.

In the example above, the difference between $421 and $357 is $64. This means that the Finance Manager got (what is called in the business) $64 in "leg."

The Sales Manager packed the payment $64 and therefore gave his Finance Manager $64 in leg to work with in order to sell the customer the back end products.

Yesterday I vetured out and found the cheapest place in Fort Worth to purchase gas.

look here: GasBuddy.com - Find cheap gas prices in your city

I found here: FortWorthGasPrices.com , $1.58 per gallon, at a  7-11 gas station 7-Eleven Home

not bad as much as 25 cents cheaper than most places.I am certain that most Americans care very little about the price of fuel. I do, I buy as much as 2 tanks per week .

So what about convenience store food , or gas station grub? Does anyone remember Stewart sandwiches? The cardboard buns,a soybean meat with gooey cheese cooked in a toaster oven, (pre- microwave days) How about pickled eggs? I love pickled pigs feet.

Now the food choices at 7-11 are greatly improved, I had a Croussant ham egg and cheese that was pretty good.

read: Gas-station gourmand about who's got the best gas station fast food.

I have been getting emails like: Microsoft AOL Email Beta Test

Sounds legit from an attoney etc. There is so much out there

to trick the average internet user.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Security Alert -- Microsoft Internet Explorer:
Should You Continue to Use It?
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

As many subscribers already know, Microsoft Internet
Explorer has significant 'holes' or vulnerabilities that
scammers and virus creators can easily take advantage of.
This is certainly not new.

In fact, judging from the number of viruses and Trojans sent
to us by subscribers each week, we know that many
subscribers are currently infected by one or more of these
viruses and Trojans.

What may be new is that the security problems for users of
Windows Microsoft Internet Explorer are becoming even more
serious and severe.

In the past couple of weeks, a new Trojan was detected that
is particularly malicious. It installs itself when you visit
a website -- without your knowledge -- and without your
having to do anything. In other words, you don't need to
click or accept anything -- this Trojan installs itself
anyway.

It is delivered through a pop-up ad that loads a file called
"img1big.gif" onto your computer.

This Trojan is a 'password sniffer.' That means that it
looks for certain kinds of information, such as user names
and passwords, and relays them back to the scammers.

Once it's installed, this Trojan pays attention when you
visit a secure webpage, and it looks for specific banking
sites, including Citibank, Deutsche Bank and Barclays Bank.

If you visit one of these sites and type in your user name,
password, etc. to log in, despite the secure connection, it
still watches your keystrokes and sends them back to the
scammer. (Security experts believe this scammer is in
Russia.)

The scammer then has access to your account information --
and you didn't even know any of this had happened!

What this means: Trojans like this one can give scammers
access to your banking information so they can steal money
from your bank account. Further, these kinds of viruses and
Trojans can be used to gain credit card and other personal
information, again to steal your money -- or your identity.

This is serious stuff.

If you want to read a technical article that contains more
information about this Trojan, visit:

==> <http://scambusters.org/a/news2.html>

The Department of Homeland Security's U.S. Computer
Emergency Readiness Team has gotten so fed up with these
Microsoft Internet Explorer vulnerabilities, that they
recently recommended that consumers switch to a different
browser.

You can read about the storm they touched off with this
recommendation at:

Texas to Host 1 of 18 Rallies by National Coalition Representing 3 Million Americans

TrueMajority's Aaron Toso, backed by the "Vote Eating Computer," at a rally for voter-verified paper ballot legislation at the U.S. Capitol on June 22nd. Join in the rally planned for your state next week!

Come Out and Show Your Commitment to Verifiable Elections

The national attention to computer voting glitches and the need to ensure verifiable voting has really grown, and election officials are feeling the heat.

TrueMajority is into the next phase of the "Computer Ate My Vote" campaign, bringing together a coalition including MoveOn, Howard Dean's Democracy for America, Common Cause, Working Assets, the Electronic Frontier Foundation, Computer Professionals for Social Responsibility, VerifiedVoting.org, and distinguished computer experts. We will hold a National Day of Action on TUESDAY, JULY 13 . At coordinated news events across the country, citizens like you--representing over three million Americans--will present petitions to the chief election officials of eighteen states, including Texas.

We'll ask the election officials to adopt the "Pledge of Ballot Integrity," which commits them to providing voters with verifiable paper ballots this coming Election Day. That paper backup will ensure that, even if computer glitches lose or change election data, the votes will be properly counted and recounts will be possible for contested outcomes.

To add your name to the petition for presentation on July 13, click Reply and Send in your e-mail program (if you're a TrueMajority member) or, if this was forwarded to you, click here: http://action.truemajority.com/index.asp?action=10178&ms=doa1&ref=494974

Organizing eighteen simultaneous events is a challenge, so we don't have all the logistical details in hand. But we wanted to offer you the chance to petition your election official and to pencil in July 13 if you're considering joining the Texas event. We'll send more details as the date gets closer.

Ben Cohen, President, TrueMajority.org

Often I got knocking on my door, sometime as late as 1 am, usually a charity cause,

begging money. Or casing my place to see if someone is home. I almost never knock on

any door uness I am expected. A home is a sanctuary and a private place. I want to

help The Girl Scouts, but not at my home I am not interested in hearing what

The Jehovas Witnesses have to say. I don't want any home-made tamales.

It says on my door Vayase !, Go Away, No Soliciting Please

How to Know if Charities are Legitimate

Although most charities are legitimate, there are quite a few
charity scams. And you certainly don't want to give your
money to scammers!

Here are nine tips to ensure your money goes to worthy causes:

1. Do some research on the charity. If you're trying to figure
out whether or not some particular US charity is worthy of
support, check out:

==> http://www.give.org/reports/index.asp

They publish their standards for rating charities, and then
rate over hundreds of different charities using these
standards.

2. Don't give to charities where most of the money goes to
executive salaries, administrative costs and fundraising. The
website we just recommended, Give.org, presents a pie chart
that shows the percentage of money going to programs vs.
administration and fundraising.

3. Always find out the exact name of the charity before you
send a check. Many fraudulent organizations select names that
sound very similar to a legitimate charity.

4. Make sure the charity is tax-exempt under section 501(c)(3)
of the Internal Revenue Code (again, for US subscribers).
Otherwise, you won't be able to deduct your contributions on
income taxes.

5. Never donate if the caller uses high-pressure tactics or
insists you donate now.

6. Always ignore phone calls, letters and emails telling you
that you won money or a prize from a charity, unless you
specifically entered a contest. These are almost always
fraudulent.

7. Avoid charities that won't send you written material before
you donate because it's 'too costly.' If an organization has
something to hide, it's very likely fraudulent.

8. Don't give cash donations, especially to door-to-door
solicitors. If you know the charity and want to contribute,
never write a check made out to 'cash.' Always make sure the
check is payable to the full name of the charity -- that way
it can be cancelled if you suspect fraud.

9. Never give your credit card number to door-to-door
solicitors, or in response to a bulk email. In fact, don't
give your credit card number unless you are completely
confident about the authenticity and good intentions of the
charity. Otherwise, you may find yourself the victim of
credit card fraud -- or even worse -- identity fraud.
