Friday, October 31, 2003 Happy Holloween!, Shoppers, this is the 2nd busiest shopping day of the year, who would figure? The Celtics, 2000 years ago?, A good article on the origons of Halloween here on Motimes homepage. I remember me and my sisters , roaming the neighborhood , going house to house, for treats. I remember some would ask for a "trick" , we would do cart-wheels, and other acrobatic tricks. I remember "big" candy bars, cookies and apples got tossed out. Candy corn , yuk, those orange and black wrapped peanut butter chewy candies. Alot of homemade costumes, huge grocery sacks full of candies. Back in my day, Mom would bring home a case of bottled soda-pop, really weird off brands, like "Bubble-Up", "Kickapoo Joy Juice". That case of soda, would have to last at least 2 weeks , in a family with 4 kids. Mom would bring home burgers and fries, from McDonalds, or Griffs, It was a rare treat! Candy forget about it, We had candy on Halloween and Christmas, that was it, and Christmas, it was just those hard candies, with usually a sugary jellie inside. A Butterfinger, Milk-Duds, or Snickers, only on Halloween. My sister would , keep some of her candy, all the way to thru December. My candy got ate up within a couple of days. I went to a 7-11 yesterday, to get gas, I went inside, to use the bathroom, and noticed that 99.9 % of everything inside is pure junk that nobody needs, I saw a 4 year old unwrapping a huge sucker, and thought how spoiled American children have become, what a waste of money people spend in the shops that line the streets of every neighborhood. I say it's good to have fun and go to parties, a good reason to go out and dress up wild. I won't be giving out candy, this is not what kids need , they need to go out to a party, then stay home and watch a scary movie! posted by txpoollover, October 31, 2003 07:02 | link | comments (1) Thursday, October 30, 2003 I got some new Cd's yesterday, one was an old one by Taj Mahal , "In progress & in motion 1965-1998" (excellent) (I want to figure out how to link to songs).Below the lyrics to a fovorite song , I dedicate this to Carole, written by Carole King, "Take A Giant Step" , (I'll take it!) posted by txpoollover, October 30, 2003 06:47 | link | comments (1) Take a Giant Step Words and Music by Gerry Goffin and Carole King Though you've played at love and lost And sorrow's turned your heart to frost I will melt your heart again. Remember the feeling as a child When you woke up and morning smiled It's time you felt like you did then. There's just no percentage in remembering the past It's time you learned to live again at last. Come with me, leave yesterday behind And take a giant step outside your mind. You stare at me in disbelief You say for you there's no relieve But I swear I'll prove you wrong. Don't stay in your lonely room Just staring back in silent gloom. That's not where you belong Come with me I'll take you where the tast of life is green And everyday holds wonders to be seen. Come with me, leave yesterday behind And take a giant step outside your mind. posted by txpoollover, October 30, 2003 06:41 | link | comments Wednesday, October 29, 2003 "A thief can only steal from you, he cannot break your heart" Spent several dollars on chains and brackets, to lock up bicycles and valuables in my garage, had a contracter steal a $400 pressure washer. Then I find out my bank card was used, and my name forged to make over $530 in purchases, by another ex , employee. How much am I being robbed of every year, every day? How much am I being cheated out of? I know my house would have been paid for 3 times , a new truck... I like to be cheerfully greeted. I just want it to be genuine. It seems like there is not enough truth and reality in the world. Even if I ask , "How are you?", I prefer "lousy", "I could be worse" , I mostly I like store clerks to be helpful and polite, rather than phoney.I don't care for the unreal reality. I have been getting some laughs out loud at the "Spike" tv show "Joe Shmoe" , that makes fun of the "reality shows".It is rerun several times . I couldn't stop laughing, when they actually served the "Shmoe" dog crap . I will clip that article. I have to get ahold on the many taxes paid daily. Most people get a tax bill , or any bill, in the mail, and pay it without question. Are you one of those? Do you look at your grocery receipt? The taxes are going up and up, here in Texas, I am tired of it. Just because the IRS, makes a bogus claim of your tax debt, do you pay it? Dispute it? Or do you just pay, after all "it must be so, it's the gubermint".What about taxation, without representation? posted by txpoollover, October 25, 2003 10:02 | link | comments Friday, October 24, 2003 Fort Worth, Texas, where America's most beautiful women call home. I went into a super tv and video center, yesterday. I had never seen a $15,000 TV. Amazing, amazing people have that kind of money laying around, so they can watch the finest detail of anything they choose. I guess the action adventure films , that are so popular , will really look impressive on a 65 in screen, with speakers surrounding your head. I remember for many years all I had was a 13 in. b&w, that I rarely watched, the 4 channels, I could get.. Go out and make it a good day! Everyday their is "failure to communicate" in the real, modern world. 10 years ago , I was aware of the internet, I had heard "Bush Limbo" talk about it, on his morning ranting right wing radio show. It had not occurred to me that the internet would be an effective business tool , and a means for me to market products and make money. In the new modern age of 2003 , look around you at traffic lights, look among all the other shoppers, wherever you go, see all the people with the compact mobile phones, pressed to their ears, lost in a private conversation, that often is very public, and a conversation that takes place, while the shoppers are driving around in their SUV's and big trucks. Now you can even communicate on the internet , on your mobile phone. We at "theKellogs" support legislation banning the use of cell phones while driving. Today ,if you" fail to communicate"effectively it could mean lost business , personal relationships are lost. The most effective and wide reaching method of communication by far is the internet. All you nhave to do is write, type a message brief , long or short, It can be heard loud and clear , and you won't have a wreck typing a message at your home computer, or wait to type a message at the parking lot of the store you are heading to. That said , I hope you have a safe and healthy day. MK posted by txpoollover, October 03, 2003 07:06 | link | comments (1) Thursday, October 02, 2003 Thursday Oct. 3rd.
